How did you decide to get into vanlife? What made you want to hit the road?

We decided to travel for one year after a trip as backpackers in Nepal. We wanted to suspend our routine in the city and experience freedom and adventures before creating a family. So we thought about the most efficient and cheapest way to travel the Americas. We didn’t know a lot about vanlife because in Italy it’s not very popular yet, but IG pages like yours welcomed us in this wonderful world, and the fact of building a van by ourselves was the most exciting part.

Do you work to earn money on the road or have you saved for this trip and just enjoying it as a holiday?

At the moment we are not working. We have saved enough money for this trip to live it at the fullest. Carlo, as an engineer, could work for his company, but they don’t appreciate smart online working.

What have been the highlights of your vanlife adventure?

Our adventure is just at the beginning: we started our trip two months ago and we’ve only been to Canada and Alaska. We have so many countries to see before arriving to Argentina! We are loving to feel in contact with nature every day and night. Probably the most exciting moment so far was seeing the northen lights from our van.

Will you continue the vanlife lifestyle once you are back home?

We fell in love with vanlife since the first day and we will continue also when we go back to Italy. We loved it so much converting our van that we are already thinking about a bigger one, for our future as a family. In the future we would like to be considered in Italy as a reference for whoever wants to starts this kind of adventure.

What have been some challenges with living on the road?

Our challenge is to minimize unexpected events that usually happen living on the road when nobody can take care of you, especially in remote areas. When something happens we like to increase our problem solving capacities. In these days another challenge has been dealing with low temperatures. We don’t have a heater like a webasto and sometimes leaving the warm sleeping bag in some of the freezing temperatures in the morning has been difficult. But we love the adventures and exploring new places!

Thank you Carlo & Serena for sharing with our community and we look forward to following along with all your adventures! To keep in touch with these two click the button below and check out more photos below too.
