Plyco Campervan Plywood

At Vanlife Conversions in Torquay, Victoria, we've been transforming ordinary vans into beautiful luxury homes for over ten years.

Our building journey started in 2013 when we began building our own vans and helping friends and family get their vans fitted out on the road. At first we were using the cheapest plywood available. We wanted to make it affordable but found ourselves using sanders, stains and varnishes for hours on end.

It wasn’t until 2016 that we visited Plyco, a family owned plywood business in Melbourne’s inner north , that the lightbulb moment happened. Investing in pre-finished plywoods reduced labor costs and upped our game in terms of quality.

Years later here we are, crafting one of a kind bespoke campers and creating unique experiences for customers looking for adventure. Our goal as camper van builders, is to create a home that you love being inside and don’t want to leave.

Every camper van we build is thoughtfully designed with our customers and built to VASS Engineering standards so that the vehicle can be insured as a camper van and for what the customer has invested into their asset, so careful consideration of the GVM (Gross vehicle mass) is paramount, especially when you are adding plywood cabinetry.

Plyco offers veneers, laminate, film face and hexa finshes within their range of plywoods, which takes out the guess work and scary surprises of unwanted weight. Plyco's 12-16-18mm Birch Plywood is gorgeous and can also be finished without edge banding, which adds some textural contrasts and reduces cost. We occasionally use it to craft cabinet faces that can withstand anything the outback throws at them.

Then there’s the 18mm Black Raven Ply, which we have used in our dark build series. It's lightweight, hard wearing, easy to clean and blacker than the midnight sky, bringing a touch of mystery and elegance to our campervan interiors, which helps set them apart from standard builds. Depending on your colour palette the options endless and a fun part of design, something we really enjoy executing to perfection.

Plyco's latest creation, "Vanply" – another plywood collection designed with the adventurous spirit in mind! Crafted in Melbourne, Vanply is a decorative timber laminate surface pressed onto a lightweight BC Falcata plywood panel, exclusively brought to you by Plyco. The benefit of adding a light weight Vaneer ply like ‘Vanply’ is that you can build with the contours of the van ceiling, arching walls or as face pieces in mind, keeping the overall weight down and without compromising on aesthetics. An excellent addition to any builders or people looking to get heir hands dirty.
