Giving Back
Last year, we raised $528 for The Trust for Public Land and $500 for the Basalt & Rural Fire Protection District. This year we hope to raise even more funds.
As vanlifers, we enjoy these public spaces to camp and outdoor recreate. To help save the land we enjoy, from neighborhood parks to national parks, we are supporting The Trust For Public Land. Their mission is to create parks and protect land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come. Today, millions of Americans live within a 10-minute walk of a park or natural area The Trust for Public Land helped create, and countless more visit every year.
Schedule
Friday:
Community Potluck!
As people check in and get settled into their spot, we will begin to gather in the center for a potluck meal. One of the best parts of a Vanlife Diaries gathering is that first night, sharing food, meeting new people and experiencing each other’s company.
Open Mic Night
Saturday:
Tea/Book Exchange with Seven Grey
Join us each morning from 8:30-10:30 am at Seven’s rig for tea and book exchange. Stop by for a cup of something warm each morning and swap books in Seven’s library.
Breathwork with Melissa Thayer
Breathwork is a powerful experience, and is ideal for individuals who are open to releasing the story they have created about themselves, and willing to move into a more expansive, complete version of their being. (This style of Breathwork is not advised for anyone with a history of heart disease, seizure disorders, anyone with severe mental illness or taking medication which affects brain chemistry.)
Idleness with Kit Whistler
Join Kit for an introduction to her philosophical premise of Idle Theory, a query to which she’s devoted her life. Kit argues that modern humans desperately need to practice idleness, or time spent doing nothing, in order to live a sane and joyful life. In this talk, Kit will explain the main tenets of Idle Theory, and will give tips for how you can incorporate idleness into your everyday life, especially when traveling and living out of a vehicle.
Mental Health Tarot Reading with Lyn Sweet
Lyn started to live/travel in a van because it seemed like her last resort to saving her sanity. Nothing Lyn was doing at the time was helping her get out of rock bottom. She needed to do something drastic. Since living in a van, a lot of old issues seemed to dissipate. Although new issues surfaced. Lyn wanted to make a "tarot" style card deck to bring awareness to mental health and how our demons are merely just creatures that need love and attention. If we name them and recognize why they're there, it's much easier to step forward into healing them. We all struggle with demons whether its loneliness, depression, trauma, self-hate, anxiety, stress....and Lyn wants to put a face to these and illustrate the other side to them. There's always a light wherever there is darkness. Lyn is providing an open discussion in a safe environment where we can voice our demons and share what ways traveling has healed or hindered them.
Group Float/Water Volleyball
Come gather by the Roaring Fork river and cool off. Bring your tubes, inflatable rafts, or whatever you got! We will also be playing water volleyball and swimming in the summer sun.
Maker’s Meetup with Debbie Hoak
Debbie will host Makers' Meetups so people can work on their hobbies together and share their passions. Debbie will be teaching knitting/crocheting to anyone who wants to learn or upgrade their skills.
